(서울=뉴스1) 윤다혜 기자 = 미중 갈등이 격화되고 있는 가운데 중국군의 한 장성이 "한국전쟁은 미국이 천하무적이라는 신화를 깨뜨렸다"며 중국은 충분히 미국을 이길 수 있다고 애국주의 결집에 나섰다. 2일 홍콩사우스차이나모닝포스트(SCMP)에 따르면 중국 군사과학원 특별초빙 수석 전문가 허레이(何雷) 중장은 항미원조(抗美援朝·한국전쟁의 중국식 표현. 미국에 대항하고 북한을 돕는다는 의미) 70주년 기념일(25일)을 앞두고 발표한 기고문에서 이같이 밝혔다. 그는 "중국이 한국전쟁에서 승리한 뒤 미국은 더 이상 중국에 군사적 침략을 감행하려 하지 않는다는 것을 역사가 증명하고 있다"고 주장했다. 허 중장은 또 마오쩌둥(毛澤東) 전 국가 주석이 미중간 힘의 격차에도 불구하고 선견지명을 갖고 참전을 결정했다고 평가했다.

Gen. Hur Lei, a senior expert at the Chinese Academy of Military Sciences, spoke of China’s invasion into the Korean War. He made the remarks in an article released ahead of the 70th anniversary of the Korean War. "History proves that after China's victory in the Korean War, the United States is no longer willing to launch military aggression against China," he claimed. 이어 "약자가 강자를 이기고, 우세한 장비를 갖춘 적을 열악한 장비로 물리치는 기적을 만들어냈다"며 "미 제국주의는 천하무적이라는 신화를 깨뜨렸다"고 강조했다. 허 중장은 최근 신종 코로나바이러스 감염증(코로나19) 등으로 전 세계가 격변을 겪고 있는 가운데 미국이 중국 안보에도 심각한 위협을 가하고 있다며 한국전쟁을 되새길 필요가 있다고 말했다. 그러면서 "1949년 신 중국 성립 후 미국은 중국을 정치적으로 고립, 경제적으로 봉쇄, 군사적으로 포위하는 등 적대 정책을 취했다"며 "우리는 위대한 항미원조 전쟁의 투쟁정신과 투쟁기술을 계승·발전하고 전투의지를 강력히 길러야 한다"고 주장했다. 허 중장의 이번 발언은 중국이 한국전쟁 참전 70주년 기념일을 애국주의를 강조하는 장으로 활용할 것이라는 전망이 제기되는 가운데 나왔다.
